Plant Viewer
Web-based 3D plant model viewer for engineering review and collaboration
Problem
3D plant models created in AutoCAD Plant 3D are locked behind expensive desktop software licences. Project stakeholders — clients, contractors, site teams — who need to review the model must either wait for a screen-share session or work from static screenshots that lose the spatial context entirely.
Approach
Plant Viewer exports AutoCAD Plant 3D models to a web-optimised format and renders them in a browser using Three.js and WebGL. No installation required — stakeholders open a link and can orbit, zoom, section-cut, and query equipment directly in their browser. Access is controlled by project, with annotations and markups synced for review.
Result
Plant model reviews happen asynchronously, across teams and time zones, without licence barriers. Clients can interrogate the 3D model independently between meetings, arriving at design reviews with specific, informed questions rather than general uncertainty.
